a happy list of reasons i am grateful to be a soul on earth
- Nick: the preeminent, eternal, assumed, irrevocable reason.
- Good books. I am finishing up By Any Other Name and it is simply stunning. It did lead to an existential breakdown as to my own novel-in-progress being a helpless hack job, but mostly I am inspired. And completely convinced William Shakespeare was a fraud! IYKYK. I am also happy that those "Shakespearean" works exist though. I want to dig into them again with my fully formed prefrontal cortex. I'll probably get a whole lot more of out the works without high school distractions.
- Flowers. Even if they sag as soon as I place them in my favorite minty-teal vase.
- Windows and changing weather! How cute that humans invented windows. They are like little frames for nature's art
- Trips. Nick and I are sooooooo grateful to be able to plan a vacation for spring break. I think we deserve it. Rio de Janeiro here we come EEK
- Good food. I'm grateful to have access to good food as well as an appetite and role models who help me remember that bodies are vessels and tools and not props or something to be molded to random beauty standards. I made yummy sandwiches for Mardi Gras yesterday that were delish.
- Temperate. It's wild that we can feel cool and warm.
- Each other....when we accept each others' existence and respond with empathy
- Group chats with siblings and cousins. It's an absolute GIFT to interact with humans that have known me in every stage and love me unconditionally.
- Friends having babies. Welcome to the world Raphael and Hazel!
- Ballet class / connecting to past hobbies
- Music. I found the classical radio station and it's been a blessing
- That art can be made by anyone
- Rain and the sound of it (me every single night: "Hey Google, play the sound of rain")
- My family. Nick and Woody. Circe, Scott, Ruby, Celi, Josh, Free, Xanthe, Tolly, Tizzy, their pets; Sara, Francisco, Emily; Judith, Jordan, Olivia, Gavin, and my extended family
- The fact that I'm so appallingly bad at math and still survived public school and so far adulthood
- My wedding ring because it's so pretty
- Actual agency to leave behind the beliefs of my youth
- The possibility to change and become a new me
- Intimacy of all sorts
Still sporting the tote from my old non-profit job
